Inside, they discovered a journal belonging to Elara. The last entry was chilling. "I can't go on. The experiment has failed. I am losing control. Please help me."

Elias's eyes filled with tears as he read the words. He knew then that Elara had been trapped in a time loop, reliving the same moment over and over, unable to escape. But there was something else in the journal that caught his attention—a mention of a time travel device.

As they continued their search, they found the device hidden in the facility's basement. It was a small, sleek device, with a control panel that glowed with an ethereal light. Elias's eyes widened in disbelief. "This is it. This is how we can save Elara."

Aria stepped forward. "Captain, I have analyzed the device. It can transport us to any point in time, but it requires a significant energy expenditure. We can only travel for a short duration."

Elias nodded. "Then we must use it. I have to save her."

As they prepared to activate the device, Aria's voice echoed through the room. "Captain, there is something you need to know. The device has a failsafe. If it detects any tampering with the timeline, it will destroy itself and all connected to it."

Elias's heart sank. "What does that mean for Elara?"

"It means that if we alter the past, we risk erasing her existence entirely," Aria explained.
